Cycling

Did you know….?

Cycling reduces the risk of serious conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity and the most common form of diabetes. Regular cyclists enjoy a fitness level equal to that of a person ten years younger. (Source: National Forum for Coronary Heart Disease Foundation, Sharp).

Three quarters of all personal journeys are less than 5 miles long – that’s half an hour on a bike. Cycling can help you maintain a healthy weight.

Every time you exercise, especially outdoors, you boost your immune system, helping you to fight off illness. Apart from the physical benefits, cycling has also been proven to assist in preventing and overcoming depression.

By using your bike on a regular basis, you will also be able to deal with stress or anxiety and boost your self confidence. (Source: Cycling Scotland)

The NHS Choices website has some information on the benefits of cycling and the recommended levels of physical activity for different age groups.
